Poor, Blind And Pensionless! Gringory Laments!

 

For many years, ace actor, Mr. James Iroha, aka Giringory Akabuogu, held Nigerians spellbound with his acting prowess, especially owing to the comical bent in his performance. He was a regular on the popular television soap, Masquerade, on national television, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).  

He was 24 years old when he began acting, and started acting as amateur before going to the university spending over 40 years on the set, he hails from Bende Local Government Area, Abia State.

Today, Iroha, who is 70, is a shadow of himself. He’s old, sick, poor, blind and dying gradually.

"I’m a pensioner and my pension is not regular. Government sometimes does not have money to pay us our pension. In that situation, they pay their regular staff before thinking of pensioners. We are dead woods." he said.

When asked what will be done if given a large sum of money he said;

"Personal rehabilitation. The first thing I will do is personal rehabilitation, and then pay my rent. I don’t have a house of my own. I still pay landlord rent even in this twilight time of my life.I am almost begging for food; so I need money to pay my rent, buy my medicines and maybe repair my car, which has been there for two years, untouched. So, if I get some money, I think I would be happy and better off psychologically, I may be healed too."

Well, Ugonna Madueke took time off his alleged flamboyant life to respond to the public.

It was with great dismay that I awoke a few days ago to see the pictorial publications being circulated about my family and me by the on-line media. It has stirred up a great deal of controversy and has portrayed our family in a negative light.The pictures posted were taken over a period of time, some before my mother left the private sector as an ED at Shell to work for the Nigerian government.  Although I benefited from a comfortable upbringing I was raised in a fairly strict environment by a military father who insisted that we worked to support ourselves whilst in school. He ensured that we had the basic minimum to support us covering tuition food and transport only.
We were all compelled to work to support ourselves and at the same time excel academically. I am a fully qualified engineer who has worked in my area of expertise for the last 2 and half years. I work very hard at my job and like many people across the globe I also party hard.
The pictures of my brother with Neyo and Dbanj are typical of the way any young man or woman will react getting somewhat excited when they run into stars whether they be home grown or international. Most people will be more than happy to have their photograph taken with them.
As far as the limo ride goes, they are commonly used as airport taxis overseas. Occasionally myself along with my friends and family chip in to pay approx $100 from the airport to our destination. To put this in context it is approximately N16, 500. There were 6 of us in the limo ride, which worked out to be roughly N2000 per head.
With regards to the picture of me in the airplane, which by the way was shot almost 2 years ago, the explanation is really quite simple. I was in America to attend the wedding of an old classmate whose parents had chartered a small aircraft to take some of the bride's closest friends and family to the destination. I did what anyone in my shoes would do and took a picture, Facebook is a testament to that.
It has been alleged that my family flew to America to attend a party, The event we attended was the Chris Aire event for the unveiling of NIGERIA’S GEM STONES with my Mother in her capacity as the then Minister of Mines & Steel. It was an event designed to promote Nigerian Gem stones.The picture of us on the Red Carpet as we attended the event has also being published. I struggle to fully understand how something that was intended to showcase Nigerian talent and products is now seen as wrong. She also honoured an invitation at the London Stock Exchange to make a presentation; a clear indication that the Gemstone event at Los Angeles had started attracting foreign investors.The picture showing members of my university fraternity and I holding some money was taken several years ago, while I was an undergraduate. It was a requirement of the society that we documented our fund raising success for a charitable course on behalf of the society I belonged to in the university. The society is called Alpha – Phi – Alpha University of Maryland Chapter.Like any young man, I have had my fair share of fun, hanging out and partying I am grateful for the upbringing that I have had. This does not however mean I am immune from the realities of the plight of millions of Nigerians living at or below the poverty line. If the pictures (published out of context) were intended to portray me or my family as insensitive to the plight of millions of Nigerians I can honestly state that this is by no means who we are.What this has taught me however is that, with positions of privilege and leadership come humility and responsibility not only by those in leadership but members of their extended family also.I sincerely apologise to my family and the Nigerian public for any hurt, anger or embarrassment that might have been caused by these pictures, which were taken completely out of context. I will endeavor to ensure that all my actions in future will be sensitive to the plight of all.However I have absolutely no control over this well orchestrated smear campaign, which is mainly directed at my mother, I therefore appeal to Nigerians not to take everything they see or read at face value.

Did Portharcourt music star, Duncan Mighty lie about not owning a Rolls Royce phantom? Well someone is claiming he did. This image of a blackberry conversation circulating the internet is supposed to be proof that Duncan Mighty lied.

Nigerian Senate Vote To Criminalise Same Sex Marriage In The Country

On Tuesday, the Nigerian senate approved the ban on same sex marriages. The bill heads to Nigeria’s House of Representatives, who have to approve it and send it to President Goodluck Jonathan for his signature before it officially becomes a law.

Homosexuality is already frowned upon in the country, and in some northern states where Islamic Sharia law has been enforced, gays and lesbians can face death by stoning. Under the measure, couples who marry could face up to 14 years in jail, and witnesses or anyone who helps them could be sentenced to 10 years behind bars, even the place of worship will be closed permanently.

European Union countries and human rights observers oppose to this and even the British government recently threatened to cut aid to African countries that violate the rights of gay and lesbian citizens.

Jim Iyke Admits, "I Am Taking A Anger Management Session Now"

Star actor James Ikechukwu Esomugha best known as Jim Iyke is no doubt percieved as arrogant and violent by many, but at least he admits his own fault. In an interview, he honestly said;

"I will not disrespect you by lying about the fact that I do get into one or two brushes with people here and there. I will not give any excuse that I have never been that kind of person. I am taking a Anger Management Session now, it was advised not only by my fiancée, but also by my agent. It is a very interesting session for my well being. One thing about our society is that we have not accepted celebrities with their whims and caprices. An actor is allowed to be eccentric. There is a thin line between the person you see on stage and the real actor. A lot of people do not understand that. I’m not perfect and I’m taking steps to deal with my imperfections"

So, you guys need to give him a chance. I heard he also spoke on the alleged fraud incident that landed him in court last week, I'll bring it to you shortly.

Surprisingly I think Ibiere has a point. Undoubtedly love is mostly at its peak during the initial stage, but after a while it could fade if both partners don't keep working hard to maintain it. There are also cases where people fall in love, but don't keep in touch for years or don't even give it a chance to grow, in most cases it just fades over time.

Terry G To Release List Of Nigerian Entertainers Who Smoke More Than He Does

Following Terry G's album release, he's been involved in a number of interview, and in the process, he's made some unexpected revelation. In an interview with Econium Magazine, he was asked about his smoking habits (Indian Hemp), ibstead of the straight forward yes or no answer, the Akpako Master replied saying

"The fact is that in this industry, we all smoke a lot. I don't see why mine is so loud. If this question should come up again, I will mention all those who smoke more than I do" 

If i were the interviewer, i would have insisted he list them, lets know those hiding their bad habits. In another radio interview with MC Icewater of Eko FM, he was asked his most memorable moment, he replied

"Once kissed by Tonto Dike at Nu Grotto recently saying she loves my song so much".

"I've done marijuana before ... I stopped using it a couple of years ago" says Tuface Idibia

Tuface idibia in an Exclusive interview with Yes! Weekly Magazine said;

"I have never tried cocaine or heroine but I've done marijuana before. But I never took it to go on stage. It was just for relaxation purpose. Eventually I knew marijuana wasn't for me, so I stopped. Because it makes me feel like I am in another world. I stopped using it a couple of years ago. It wasn't difficult stopping. It was just craziness that introduced me to marijuana. You know how youth energy used to push one into things like that. In those days I used to listen to songs like 'Rolling down the street smoking'. All those songs can influence, if you want to be influenced. It is not for me to advise musicians not to write or sing about drugs.

Singer Slam quits music for job at Lagos-based PR firm

Slam was a member of pop group Oxygen which included Paul IK Dairo, B-Swave and the deceased Tony Tonero. He was signed to Kennis music, and schooled and performed in England, where he lived for many years, before finally returning home.
