First Lady's HIV Campaign: "It Will Be A Thing Of The Past In 2015" She Says

The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan on Thursday in a campaign pleaded that all hands should be on deck to eradicate HIV and AIDS by 2015. The First Lady made this appeal at the commencement of the campaign for the elimination and prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, to commemorate the  World AIDS Day.

The Theme for day is 'Getting To Zero'. She said;
"Since the first World AIDS Day in 1998, the day has assumed new significance; it has become a day when stakeholders renew their commitment to focus on specific issues that will make the biggest difference for the next years."The objective is zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths by 2015. I urge that to make this a reality, all pregnant women should access ante-natal care in health facilities.
"Even if they have traditional birth attendants, they should make sure they visit the health facility at least once during pregnancy and deliver their babies in a health facility and discussions on HIV should be encouraged in our communities." The president's wife noted that most HIV deaths were not caused by a lack of access to medication but by discrimination and urged that people showed support to people living with it.
"Remember that any of us could be infected with HIV; hence we should give them support in order to prolong their lives."Discrimination against carriers kills. No matter how you take anti-retroviral drugs, without love and support, you can still die."Please husbands, allow your wives to visit the clinic for ante-natal care, HIV testing and counselling and early education and awareness are key to combating the virus."
"Please reveal their HIV status to their wives on time. Some men know their status and take drugs secretly and leave the wives in the dark until the woman's case worsens".
Seriously? Could it be possible that some men know their status and even treat themselves, yet they leave their wife in the dark till it's too late for her to be treated? Wow things happen.

Sultry Actress, Tonto Dikeh Is Rewarding Brilliant Students With Scholarship This Weekend

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh sure knows how to stay on top in the entertainment industry. The very controversial actress is yet again in the news, this time around for a just course. She has decided to provide a 100 student with scholarship from both public and private schools. When asked why she was reaching out to this student she says,
The act of rewarding brilliant students with scholarships and through other means which used to be very prevalent in those days seems to have gone into extinction. There are thousands of intelligent students who need to be shown lots of love, if not for anything but for their outstanding successes. The idea is to appreciate them in any little way I can and this Christmas period provides an excellent opportunity.”
Her reward project for the students is to hold on December 10 at the Troy Bar and Restaurants, Ogba, Lagos.

Impressive right? For those of you who think what the actress is all about controversy does this change your perspective of her? Or do you still think she'll do anything to stay in the news? Let us know what you think.

LMAO: A Concerned Nigerian's Anger Following The MBGN Competition

A very concerned Nigerian decided to vent her anger, regarding the state of education in Nigeria, and no doubt her anger was triggered by the Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria (MBGN) competition which held a few months ago.
"I watched with dismay and sadness some of the auditions of MBGN 2011 yesterday. We have to declare a state of emergency in our educational sector. It is sad to note that most contestants or aspiring beauty queens were asked the capital of Kebbi State, and 5 out 7 did not know. One said, the capital of Kebbi State is KOGI, her friend said Douala. One was asked to name the largest city in west Africa, she confidently said NIGERIA. One said her expectation is that she is beautiful, fair, and jovial...the other was asked what is her opinion on foreign aids to Nigeria and Africa. She said there are many testing clinics now in Nigeria so foreign aids will not kill Nigerians again...one was asked to mention and talk about one current female minister. She said Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, is the current Prime Minister heading Finance matters. One was asked about the govenor of CBN, she said they are yet to conduct election in that state, another was asked what currency was used in Nigeria before Naira, she answered kobo. Another said Abacha was nigerias first president..."
At least someone decided to speak up. If you didn't watch the video in question, then watch it below

Oprah Winfrey to become a teacher of LIFE 101 in South Africa school

The students at Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa are going to be benefit from some private lessons from the media mogul herself! After receiving her Honorary Doctorate in Education at the University of the Free State, Oprah Winfrey is heading back to South Africa as a teacher!

In an email newsletter that Oprah sent out to her fans, she said that she will be returning later this year to teach a class called “It’s Life 101″. The course will be about all the things she wishes someone had taught her about how the world and life really work.
Oprah, who founded the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls and has weathered some scandals that plagued the school in the beginning, said: “Should be fun since I love to teach. And they’re like sponges. Like 12th graders everywhere, this first class is both anxious and excited about going to college. Most will be the first in their family. So it’s a very big deal for them, and they’re feeling the pressure.”
The billionaire businesswoman also said what fun she’d had with the Academy’s students during her recent trip to accept her Doctorate. She wrote “I love being with them and talking to them about all things important. When I’m there I’m talking from the time I get up till I go to bed, about EVERYTHING teenage girls are going through. It’s the same all over the world.”
